Time photog worked for transition

Time’s current issue is chock-full of Callie Shell photos, the news magazine benefiting from her incredible access to the first family . . .

. . . on inauguration day. But on Jan 5, Shell took pictures in a very different role than her journalistic one—allowing her work to be sent out as official White House transition press releases.

Shell’s dual roles have blurred the lines of journalism, leaving Time embarrassed and White House photographers stewing.

Shell defended her work, telling Politico that she works for Time and has never worked for the Obamas, whether during the administration, transition or campaign. (more…)

On January 6, the New Peoples Army (NPA) freed its prisoner of war (POW) Army 1st Lt. Vicente Cammayo at the hinterlands of Loreto in Agusan del Sur. Cammayo was captured by the NPA guerrillas in an encounter in Laak, Compostela Valley on November 7, 2008.

During the brief turnover program, Cammayo was still walking normally with the NPAs, church representatives and ICRC staff, who received him from the NPAs.

But when he arrived at Eastern Mindanao Command in Davao City, he was placed on a wheelchair and presented to the media. Be the judge.

Multimedia Journalist

Here’s a interesting post on changing the role of photojournalists today. Some media institutions today require ‘added skills’ when you’re applying for a certain position. So you’re not just a print journalist, but you could also be called: Multimedia Journalist. Agree?

Changing the Role of Photojournalists in Canada

There are no jobs for photojournalists who can only take pictures. “There will never be another still-only photographer job in Canada anywhere,” says Moe Doiron, Deputy Managing Editor for Photography, The Globe and Mail. “It’s dead.”

Last year, he started requiring multimedia pieces as part of a photographer’s job application at The Globe.

He hired two new employees to work specifically on video in September 2008. He says their multimedia skills pushed them ahead of a number of more experienced photographers.

Defining Street Photography

Street Photography — admin @ 3:12 am

For those who want to learn or interested in photojournalism, the street is the best place to practice your eye. Spend at least three to five hours on the street and you’ll find very good  subjects. There are no ‘hard rules.’ Just shoot when something comes on your way. Street photography is real easy, you don’t need more gears, just your kit lens and shoot!

We found an interesting website and they’ve got interesting material on street photography.

Defining street photography might do injustice to it’s free, liberated and completely non-uniform nature; however, I am so frequently asked about it that I decided to give it a try despite the possible disservice.

Simply put street photography includes any photograph made anywhere in public places. Some people narrow it down to urban settings and some people think there must be people present in these kinds of photos. But the bottom line is that each street photographer will find their own meaning and approach therefore whatever definition they might arrive at will work just as well. Click here to read more.

Hacked!

Technology — kitoyski @ 12:13 am

We were surprised to see that this blog section was hacked about two weeks ago. We asked ourselves, why did they do that to AKP? We’re not that popular anyway or we did not do anything wrong against those bored people. It could be because this system of section wasn’t very well ’secured.’
