Trade apprenticeships
Most structural trade skills in Australia are gained through a formal apprenticeship combining on-the-job training with a TAFE or registered training organisation (RTO). Licensing
Structural building work above a certain value (varies by state) must be performed by or under the supervision of a licensed builder. Industry associations
The Master Builders Association (MBA) and the Housing Industry Association (HIA) are the two main industry bodies for residential building in Australia. Both offer training, technical resources and business support for members. The Outdoor Living Council of Australia (OLCA) specifically covers pergolas, carports and outdoor rooms.
